KANSAS CITY, MO. – Tacoma Defiance (10-3-4, 37 points) defeated Sporting Kansas City II (7-8-2, 23 points) 3-0 Friday night at Mercy Victory Field. Marlon Vargas had a brace and Georgi Minoungou added his first goal to claim the victory.

Tacoma opened up the scoring early through Minoungou. Defiance captain Randy Mendoza received a ball at the edge of the area, crossing a pass to the feet of Minoungou, who finished into the top right corner of the net to give the visitors the lead. Vargas then scored his team-leading 10th goal of the year in the 21st minute. The midfielder caught Kansas City on the counterattack off a corner, receiving a ball from Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez at midfield and sprinting up an empty pitch, finishing past the Kansas City keeper.

Vargas bagged his brace in the 53rd minute, also on a counterattacking play. Vargas found the ball just outside the area and passed it back to Ocampo-Chavez before getting the ball again and firing a shot into the back of the net.

Following tonight’s match, Wade Webber’s side returns home to Starfire Stadium to take on St. Louis City SC 2 for the second time this season on Saturday, July 20 (7:00p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
