RENTON, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso has been named the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Player of the Tournament, it was announced today. The award is voted by TheCup.us and a select panel of members from the North American Soccer Reporters.

Alonso was tied for second with four goals in the 2012 tournament, and also recorded two assists to go along with his usual impressive defensive effort. The Cuban midfielder set a Modern Professional Era record with five straight appearances in the Open Cup final, dating back to 2008 with the Charleston Battery.

Alonso earned Player of the Round honors for his performances in the 2012 semifinals and the 2011 final.

Seattle has won Player of the Tournament honors in all four years since joining MLS. Kasey Keller won the award in 2009, Nate Jaqua in 2010 and Fredy Montero in 2011.

Sounders FC plays Trinidad's Caledonia AIA in the CONCACAF Champions League group stage on Thursday evening and returns to MLS play at FC Dallas on Sunday.
