Another new face is joining the Sounders roster.

Following the acquisition of Sounders FC’s Designated Player Dejan Joveljić on August 25, D.C. United midfielder Caden Clark has signed with the Rave Green, occupying a U-22 spot.

Announced on Sept. 3, the latest addition of Clark will bring reinforcements to the attack with his flexibility in the midfield.

Here is a breakdown of what Clark brings to Sounders FC.

International experience

Clark has featured with the U.S. Men’s National Team at both the youth and the senior level. During his time with the U-20’s, Clark played a role in the team’s Concacaf U-20 Championship title in 2022. Three years later, he earned opportunities with the First Team in a pair of friendlies against Venezuela and Costa Rica where he tallied an assist and his first goal for the U.S.

Versatility in the attack

Clark’s ability to play on both wings and as an attacking midfielder is a major plus for the Rave Green, who have struggled with injuries over the past month. His addition to the team not only ensures depth to the midfield group but alleviates the stress of injuries leaving the position spread thin.

It also gives the coaching staff more tactical flexibility. Whether it be tailoring formations for a particular matchup or having to make a quick, in-game adjustment based on the circumstances of the match, Clark brings an adaptable presence that will benefit the team as they look ahead to the latter part of the season.

MLS background

Aside from his brief stint in Europe with Vendsyssel FF (2023, loan) and RB Leipzig (2022-2023), Clark has spent most of his career in Major League Soccer, bringing veteran experience to the Sounders side. Beginning in 2020, the midfielder kicked off his MLS career with Red Bull New York before returning to the league in 2024, competing with Minnesota United FC, CF Montréal, and D.C. United.

Room for growth

Despite having played at the professional level for nearly six seasons, Clark is still 23-years-old, giving Sounders FC the opportunity to continue his development as a player. He’s already made significant strides in his MLS career thus far, tallying 13 goals and 11 assists across four different teams, and has yet to reach his ceiling.
