CONCACAF announces Gold Cup groups for 2017 tournament

CONCACAF released the 2017 Gold Cup groups and schedule on Tuesday with plenty of Seattle Sounders expected to be in the mix. The tournament will run from July 7-26.

The United States called in four Sounders to their January camp earlier this year and could have at least five players in Bruce Arena’s pool if he reconsiders Clint Dempsey. Arena previously stated he would not select Dempsey for the U.S.’ upcoming March World Cup Qualifiers while he worked his way back to full fitness, but should everything continue to go well for Dempsey, a call up from Arena is likely.

The U.S. will play in Group B with Panama, Martinique and the winner of a play-in game between Haiti and Nicaragua. Panama’s Roman Torres and Martinique’s Jordy Delem will likely feature in the Gold Cup this summer as well.

Jamaica are in Group C with Oniel Fisher also likely to be selected.

The quarterfinal knockout rounds are July 19 and 20, the semifinals are on July 22 and 23 and the final will be held on July 26 in Santa Clara, Calif.

Here are the groups:

Group A:

  • Costa Rica
  • Honduras
  • Canada
  • French Guiana

Group B:

  • United States
  • Panama
  • Martinique
  • Winner of Haiti vs. Nicaragua

Group C:

  • Mexico
  • El Salvador
  • Jamaica
  • Curacao
