Following the Seattle Sounders’ first-ever Leagues Cup title win over Inter Miami on Aug. 31, Washington State Representative Pramila Jayapal submitted a resolution to Congress to congratulate the club on being the only MLS club to win all five North American trophies.
In addition to Leagues Cup, the Sounders have collected the U.S. Open Cup (2009, ‘10, ‘11, ‘14), the Supporters Shield (2014), the MLS Cup (2016, ‘19), and the Concacaf Champions Cup (2022) since joining Major League Soccer in 2009.
The resolution not only applauds the organization for a consistent standard of excellence, it specifically pinpoints their Leagues Cup win and the impact it had on the club and the Seattle Soccer community. The document concludes by commending “the people of the State of Washington and the city of Seattle for their enthusiastic support of Seattle Sounders FC” and recognizing “the continuing progress toward ensuring equity in men’s and women’s professional sports.”
This is the second time the Sounders have been recognized for their achievements to Congress. Washington Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray submitted a resolution to Congress in 2019 on behalf of the club and their MLS Cup championship win vs. Toronto FC.
