Ecuador calls in Seattle Sounders defender Xavier Arreaga for 2019 Copa América in Brazil

Ecuador national team Head Coach Hernán Darío Gómez has called in Seattle Sounders defender Xavier Arreaga has part of his 23-man roster for 2019 Copa América in Brazil.

Arreaga made his international debut for La Tricolor in a friendly against Panama on Nov. 20, 2018, his only cap thus far. The 24-year-old signed with the Sounders on May 7 and made his MLS debut last weekend at Sporting Kansas City when he entered as a substitute in the 38th minute.


Ecuador is in Group C with Uruguay, Chile and Japan, which was invited along with Qatar to round out the 12-team tournament. The top two teams from each group advance to the Knockout Round, with the two highest-finishing third place teams filling out the quarterfinals.
