One match. It all comes down to this.
On Saturday afternoon, Sounders FC closes the 2026 MLS regular season against LAFC on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field (4:00 p.m. PT; Apple TV, iHeartMedia Seattle, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS). It's Decision Day, it's our annual Fan Appreciation Match, and our postseason fate will be settled in front of the home crowd.Â
Here are four reasons to attend:
1. Everything on the Line
Seattle enters Decision Day needing three points and a little help. A win, paired with a dropped result by any one of the LA Galaxy, Portland Timbers or Colorado Rapids, sends the Sounders to the Audi 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs, and a draw can still be enough depending on results elsewhere (full scenarios at MLSsoccer.com). With every Western Conference match kicking off at 4:00 p.m. PT, the scoreboard and standings will be moving all afternoon. Clinch on Saturday, and it's the club's 17th postseason trip in 18 MLS seasons.
2. A Rivalry Built in the Playoffs
Few opponents have produced bigger nights for Seattle than LAFC. In the 2019 Western Conference Final, the Sounders stunned the Supporters' Shield winners 3-1 on the road on the way to a second MLS Cup, then beat them by the same score at home in the 2020 postseason. Then in 2024, Seattle picked up an epic, last gasp win in the Western Conference Semifinal to advance to a third Western Conference Final in six years.
The Black & Gold arrive with a playoff spot secured and an attack led by Denis Bouanga and Son Heung-Min, two of the most prolific attacking players in the league. LAFC won the first meeting of the season 1-0 on a late goal from Timothy Tillman back on May 24. Saturday presents an opportunity for the Sounders to exact revenge and book a spot in the postseason.
3. Fan Appreciation Match
As Head Coach Brian Schmetzer always says, this club is the connection between the players and the fans. This weekend’s annual Fan Appreciation Match closes the regular season by celebrating that connection, paying homage to the traditions that have defined this club since 1974.
For our final home match of the regular season, players will be giving out carnations to fans after final whistle – a time-honored tradition dating back over 50 years. The 2026 Fan of the Year will lead Scarves Up, and we’ll have a host of items at AMC for Season Ticket Members, including 400 beverage vouchers, 250 hot dog vouchers, and 30 vouchers for a customized Sounders jersey. Alliance Members will also receive a 25% discount for retail merch at all Pro Shop locations throughout the stadium.
4. Giveaways and Surprises
