Garth Lagerwey offers the inside scoop on how the Seattle Sounders landed Nicolás Lodeiro

Few players have made a larger impact in such a short time on the field in MLS this season than Nico Lodeiro, the Uruguayan international who signed with the Seattle Sounders last month.

The 27-year-old World Cup veteran has played a part in all six of the Sounders’ goals in his three games with the club – he scored one, assisted on two others and has the secondary assist on the final three – and he has a once stagnant Sounders team dreaming of the postseason for the first time this year.

But how exactly did the Sounders land Lodeiro, and where does he fit in the club’s changing identity under President and GM Garth Lagerwey?

FourFourTwo USA has the inside scoop on Lagerwey’s dogged pursuit of Lodeiro, how the former Real Salt Lake GM feels working with his fourth coach in four years and why the future of the Sounders now rests more on Lagerwey’s shoulders than ever before.

“Do I feel a little bit more ability now to move forward with kind of my vision of things? I do,” Lagerwey said. “If for no other reason than just maybe I’m more stubborn, but I’m going to go ahead with how I know how to do things. We’re going to make long-term decisions. We’re going to build this thing. We’re going to try to be a really good footballing team.”
