Joevin Jones starts, logs full 90 minutes for Trinidad & Tobago in World Cup Qualifying

Seattle Sounders left back Joevin Jones started and logged a full 90 minutes for Trinidad & Tobago in the team’s first game of the CONCACAF Hexagonal on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to push T&T past Costa Rica in Port of Spain.

Costa Rica bagged two second half goals to fuel a 2-0 road win in World Cup Qualifying, a costly loss for a Trinidad & Tobago side largely considered an underdog to qualify for Russia in 2018. Jones now has 58 career caps for Trinidad and Tobago ahead of a match on the road against Honduras in San Pedro Sula on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Sounders center back Roman Torres, meanwhile, made the gameday roster but did not suit up for Panama in Los Canaleros’ 1-0 upset over Honduras in San Pedro Sula. Torres has missed each of the Sounders’ past two playoff games with a hamstring injury. Panama will return to action on Tuesday against Mexico in Panama City.

Sounders midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro also rested on Thursday in Uruguay’s 2-1 win over Ecuador in COMNEBOL World Cup Qualifying in Montevideo. Lodeiro made the gameday roster but was not called on as La Celeste inch closer to a World Cup berth.

Uruguay will return to action against Chile in Santiago on Tuesday.

Sounders forward Nelson Valdez also did not see any playing time in Paraguay's 4-1 loss to Peru on Thursday. Valdez was called up to the Paraguayan team after scoring two goals in the Sounders’ first two postseason games this fall, tying the career postseason mark in Seattle franchise history (3). Paraguay will play against Bolivia in La Paz on Tuesday.
