Jordan Morris, Cristian Roldan and United States defeat Curaçao, advance to 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals

Gold Cup QF

Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris, midfielder Cristian Roldan and the United States men’s national team advanced to the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals on Sunday, defeating Curaçao 1-0 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The U.S. had two golden opportunities to take the lead inside the first five minutes of the match, but both chances ultimately went begging. That attacking pressure paid off in the 25th minute, as Cristian Pulisic clipped a perfect cross to the back post that Weston McKennie duly headed home.

Morris entered the match as a substitute for Tyler Boyd in the 63rd minute. With Curaçao edging their way back into the match, the Mercer Island native had to put in a solid defensive shift, although he did manage to generate a decent effort in the 82nd minute.

Roldan made the matchday roster, but he did not feature in the game.

Earlier in the day, Román Torres and Panama were eliminated from the Gold Cup following a 1-0 loss to Jamaica, who the USMNT will face in the semifinals on July 3 in Nashville, Tenn. (6 p.m. PT; FS1).
