Jordan Morris, Cristian Roldan, United States defeat Román Torres, Panama 1-0 in final Gold Cup group-stage match

Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris, midfielder Cristian Roldan and the United States defeated defender Román Torres and Panama 1-0 on Wednesday in the final group-stage match in the Concacaf Gold Cup at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.


Jozy Altidore scored the match’s lone goal in the 66th minute, converting a beautiful overhead kick.


The U.S. finished atop Group D with a perfect 3-0-0 record, defeating Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Panama by a combined score of 11-0. Morris and Roldan started for Head Coach Gregg Berhalter on Wednesday, each earning their second appearance of the tournament. Roldan played all 90 minutes, while Morris exited in the 70th minute for Tyler Boyd.


Torres, who captains Panama and started the first two matches of the tournament, rested on Wednesday with Los Canaleros already advancing to the knockout rounds.


The U.S. will take on Curaçao on Sunday, June 30, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Penn., at 5:30 p.m. PT. Panama will take on Jamaica on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field as well at 2:30 p.m. PT.
