Jordan Morris, Stanford heading to NCAA Tournament Final Four

Sounders FC Academy product and Stanford junior Jordan Morris scored the opening goal of the Cardinal’s 2-1 win over No. 1 Wake Forest on Saturday evening in Winston-Salem. With the win, Stanford advances past the Demon Deacons to head to the College Cup in Kansas City.

Morris picked up the first goal of the match in the 18th minute on an assist by senior Brandon Vincent, who is also a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy along with Morris. Wake Forest equalized with a PK in the 70th minute after a foul in the box, with the match ending 1-1 at the end of regulation. The semifinal match went to overtime, with Stanford picking up the golden goal in the first period of extra time.

Stanford’s match was the final of the day, with No. 6 Syracuse defeating Boston College 1-0. Syracuse eliminated Seattle University last weekend with a 3-1 win in New York.

Morris now has 11 goals in the regular season and postseason for Stanford. The squad will now travel to Kansas City for the semifinals, with Akron, Syracuse and Clemson all advancing.
