RENTON, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC announced today that Leo Gonzalez was named the team's Defender of the Year. The award was voted on by his teammates.
Costa Rican left back Leo Gonzalez was the most consistent defender for Sounders FC in 2013, matching his career high for starts (27) while logging 2,318 minutes (4th on team). Fourteen of Seattle’s 15 wins came with Gonzalez in the starting lineup. The team allowed one goal per game in his 27 starts and 2.14 goals per game in the seven games he did not play. Gonzalez made a team-high 20 straight starts from April 13 to August 31.
