Major League Soccer announces Points Per Game will be used to determine final 2020 regular season standings

Sounders huddle 2020-10-29

Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that Points Per Game, rather than Points, will be used to determine final 2020 regular season standings. MLS made this decision because several clubs are set to finish the season without a full 23-match schedule due to COVID-19.

The Seattle Sounders are now first in the Western Conference at 1.84 PPG, jumping Sporting Kansas City, who has 1.8 PPG. Seattle is now third in the Supporters’ Shield standings behind only the Philadelphia Union (2.1 PPG) and Toronto FC (1.95 PPG).

The Sounders’ postponed match against the Colorado Rapids that was originally slated for Oct. 14 will not be rescheduled. Seattle visits Colorado in its next match on Sunday (6 p.m. PT; JOEtv, Prime Video, 1090 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM) in the first and only meeting of the two clubs in the regular season.
