Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final

Sounders FC won the 2014 U.S. Open Cup title, coming from behind on the road to beat the Union and lift the fourth Open Cup title in franchise history.

Man of the Match: Playing in his 299th career appearance with the Sounders at the USL and MLS levels, Zach Scott showed his toughness throughout the match in keeping Philadelphia’s Conor Casey to just one shot. However, when he suffered a knee knock late in the second half, but still soldiered on to keep the Union off the board, he showed the heart of a champion in helping Seattle lift its fourth U.S. Open Cup title.

Telling Stat: Sounders FC improved to 21-1-3 all-time in the U.S. Open Cup, including two wins in tournament qualifying in 2009. In overtime matches, Seattle went 3-0-3, including two victories this season over the Portland Timbers and Philadelphia Union.

What You Missed: Over 300 Sounders FC supporters filled their section in the stands at PPL Park. Surrounded by security, the fans sang, chanted and waved their flags for 120 minutes after many of them traveled across the country on Tuesday.

So What: Sounders FC matches the Chicago Fire with the most U.S. Open cup titles in MLS history, lifting the trophy for the fourth time in just six years in MLS. That puts Seattle back into the CONCACAF Champions League for the 2015-2016 tournament. Seattle will now resume MLS play on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena, continuing the 12-day road trip that concludes a week from Wednesday against FC Dallas.
