SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC (12-17-4, 40 points) fell 1-0 on the road to Sporting Kansas City (11-15-7, 40 points) on Sunday afternoon at Children’s Mercy Park. With the loss, Seattle is eliminated from contention from the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, snapping the club’s league-record 13-year postseason streak.

The home side broke the scoreless deadlock in the 41st minute, with William Agada converting in front of goal on a cross from Dániel Sallói. This marks the first time Sounders FC has failed to qualify for the postseason since joining MLS in 2009. The 13-year run was the second-longest active streak across the five major men’s professional sports league, behind only the Pittsburgh Penguins’ current streak of 16 seasons in the NHL.

Brian Schmetzer’s side now returns home for the final match of the regular season, a matchup with the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, October 9 at Lumen Field (2:00 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, Univision-Seattle, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
