MLSSoccer.com has named Seattle Sounders midfielder/defender Gustav Svensson to its Week 11 Team of the Week. The 31-year-old Swedish international helped Seattle to a 2-1 win at Toronto FC midweek before the Sounders fell in Portland on Sunday.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Svensson spent Week 11 as one of three center backs in Head Coach Brian Schmetzer’s 5-4-1 formation. He was incredibly solid in both games and made a sliding, goal-saving challenge on Diego Valeri over the weekend.
The Sounders have an upcoming bye weekend before hosting Real Salt Lake on Saturday, May 26 (2 p.m. PT; JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS).
