Nathan Sturgis added to Seattle Sounders roster ahead of SCCL match

Just a day before the start of competitive play for 2016, Seattle Sounders General Manager and President of Soccer announced on Monday that Nathan Sturgis has signed with the squad.

Sturgis, who began his MLS career in 2006 with the LA Galaxy, did a stint with the Rave Green from 2009 to 2010, making 29 regular season league appearances and scoring one goal. Since then, he's bounced around the league, most recently landing with Houston Dynamo.

"It's an exciting addition," said Lagerwey. "He's a former Sounder coming back and rejoining the team."

With the addition, Seattle's roster continues to take shape, but Lagerwey noted that the team does not have to be MLS compliant until March 1. Sturgis will be available on Tuesday night as the Sounders take on Club América in Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League play (7 p.m. PT/FS1, UDN/KIRO 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).

"Nate is a solid player and an accomplished player who is technically very sound," said Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid. "He has two good feet, hits a great ball and is a very good passer. He is also a good guy in the locker room who gives us a bit of of a veteran presence coming off the bench in the midfield."
