Ahead of the competition, FIFA.com spotlighted the top ten young stars to watch at the 2025 Club World Cup. Sounders FC midfielder Obed Vargas was selected alongside the likes of Endrick of Real Madrid, Warren Zaire-Emery of PSG and Savinho of Manchester City.
āEnergetic central midfielder Vargas helps the Sounders dictate the tempo of matches with his precision passing and excellent reading of the game,ā they wrote. āHe is one of the youngest players in MLS history, having made his debut aged 15. His football journey to date has not been plain sailing, however, with Vargas forced to spend a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a stress fracture in his back in 2022. He returned stronger than ever, and Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer has hailed him as a player with a āsuper high ceilingā. Born in Alaska, Vargas is of Mexican descent. He represented USA at the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023ā¢ but has since switched his international allegiance to Mexico.ā
