The Seattle Sounders drew the Portland Timbers 2-2 at Lumen Field on Saturday. Raúl Ruidíaz and Léo Chú scored in the first half for Seattle, while Dairon Asprilla and Evander tallied for Portland in the second half.
Ruidíaz opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he headed in a flicked-on header from Jackson Ragen off a corner kick. The goal was Ruidíaz’s fifth on the season.
Chú doubled the Sounders’ advantage in the 30th minute when he made an incredible solo run from midfield before depositing his shot past David Bingham in goal.
The Timbers thought they had pulled one back in the 40th minute when Felipe Mora had a close-range header that seemed destined for the net, but João Paulo headed it off the line.
Portland got a lifeline in the 53rd minute when Chú was sent off after receiving his second yellow card of the match.
The Timbers halved the deficit in the 67th minute when Asprilla scored on a header at the far post just moments after entering as a substitute.
Portland equalized just three minutes later when Evander scored from 25 yards out.
The Sounders end the evening in second place in the West with 41 points from 28 matches.
Ruidíaz back on the score sheet
The Peruvian continued his dominance over the Timbers, notching his 12th goal in 16 matches against Portland. It was also Ruidíaz’s first tally since June 10.
Winless streak vs. Portland continues
The Sounders have now gone six matches without a win against the Timbers (0-4-2) and are winless in their last nine meetings at Lumen Field.
