The Seattle Sounders battled it out to a 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon against FC Dallas at Lumen Field, with the lone goal coming from Albert Rusnák late into the second half.
The Rave Green started off strong in the 2nd minute when Nouhou found Ryan Kent down the flank for the winger to loft the ball into the box. The ball managed to find Jesús Ferreira, who redirected the ball with his head toward goal, but it went over the net.
Then in the 14th, FC Dallas had an opportunity at goal when Manuel Cafumana attempted a one-time shot from just outside the eighteen, but Stefan Frei was there to make the easy save.
In the 20th minute, Rusnák had a near breakaway off a through ball from Ferreira, but two of Dallas’ defenders were able to block the midfielder off from the play, leaving goalkeeper Maarten Paes to collect the ball with ease.
Two minutes later, the Sounders were inches away from grabbing the first goal of the day when Obed Vargas found Pedro de la Vega open on the right flank, where he placed the ball perfectly to Rusnák near the top of the box. The Slovak international drove the ball one-time toward goal, but a deflection led the ball out for a goal-kick.
Dallas had a chance to score in the 40th minute from a free kick near the left flank, but Frei was able to swipe it away, leading to a corner kick for the away side.
de la Vega nearly had a goal to close out the first half when a Rusnák free kick found the head of the winger back post, but his scoring attempt went over the net.
12 minutes into the second half, FC Dallas had an opportunity at goal from a Ramiro Benetti shot from distance, but Frei made a diving save to prevent the potential lead for the away side.
It looked as if the Sounders had found a breakthrough goal when Kent produced a driven cross toward the center of the six for Georgi Minoungou to blast into the top of the net in the 76th minute, but the referee called it offsides.
But, it wasn’t until the 86th minute when the Sounders secured the three points at home. After a Dallas defender committed a handball in the box, Rusnák went to the spot and produced an absolute rocket past Paes to close out the match with a win for the Rave Green.
