The Seattle Sounders fell 2-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps at Lumen Field on Sunday night behind second-half goals from Rayan Elloumi and Thomas MĂ¼ller.
After a shotless opening half-hour, Snyder Brunell had the first quality look for either team when he pounced on a flicked-on ball in the box off a Vancouver turnover but rattled the side of the net.
Seattle was dealt another injury blow in the 36th minute when JesĂºs Ferreira went down with a leg injury.
Whitecaps forward MĂ¼ller nearly opened the scoring in the 40th minute when he volleyed a corner kick that was destined for goal, but Paul Rothrock used his body to clear it off the line where it deflected off goalkeeper Andrew Thomas and away to safety.
MĂ¼ller had another opportunity from the top of the box in the 52nd minute, but his shot was straight at Thomas.
The Sounders had a golden opportunity in the 54th minute when Rothrock whipped a ball across the face of goal, but it was just ahead of the run of Danny Musovski and behind the run of Albert RusnĂ¡k.
Vancouver found a go-ahead goal in the 77th minute when Emmanuel Sabbi drove down the left flank, cut inside and then dinked a through ball to Elloumi, who finished past Thomas at the far post.
The Whitecaps doubled their lead in the 82nd minute when MĂ¼ller hammered home a rare indirect free kick inside the Sounders’ box that hit the inside of the far post and bounced in.
The Sounders finish the evening 11th in the Western Conference with 24 points from 18 matches (7-8-3).
