Real Madrid defeated the MLS All-Stars on Wednesday evening 1-1 (4-2 penalties) at the 2017 MLS All-Star Game at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Borja Mayoral opened the scoring in the 59th minute when he snuck in behind MLS’ defense and curled a shot to the far post. Orlando City forward Dom Dwyer equalized in the 87th minute when he cleaned up a header from the Chicago Fire’s Dax McCarty that hit the post.

Participating in his first All-Star Game, Seattle Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei entered in the second half, turned away two Real Madrid shots and manned the goal during the penalty kick shootout.

Dwyer and LA Galaxy forward Giovani dos Santos missed the opening two MLS penalty kicks of the shootout, while Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo all converted for Madrid. Portland Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri and Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron each scored in the shootout for MLS.

The Sounders return to league play on Saturday (5 p.m. PT; Q13 FOX, Univision, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM) against expansion franchise Minnesota United at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in their first meeting in Major League Soccer.
