Seattle Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer announced on Thursday that forward Will Bruin suffered a torn ACL in training on Tuesday.

"He does have an ACL tear of his right knee, that’s the official diagnosis," Schmetzer told media after training on Thursday. "Surgery will come after they let the swelling go down and he will have surgery in early July. He is effectively done for some time."

Bruin, 29, is in his third season in Seattle and has scored 20 goals and added eight assists in 69 appearances. He is sixth all-time in MLS goals scored among active players with 70.

"We’ll forge on, we have got to keep going," Schmetzer added. "We will miss him, but this group, this franchise, this team has overcome serious injuries before, and we will have to do it again."

The Sounders return to MLS play on Saturday, June 29, at CenturyLink Field against the Vancouver Whitecaps (7 p.m. PT; JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS).
