Seattle Sounders Owner Adrian Hanauer reflects on highs and lows of 2016

Seattle Sounders Owner Adrian Hanauer didn’t mince words in a recent article on ESPNFC.com outlining the highs and lows of the team’s dramatic 2016 season, calling it the worst year of his lengthy career in professional soccer.

The Sounders will take on Toronto FC in the MLS Cup Final at BMO Field on Dec. 10, a culmination perhaps one thought inconceivable as recent as the regular season finale in October. The Sounders have never won MLS Cup and are relishing the chance to make history after flirting with what they thought might be the worst season since the club’s MLS inception in 2009.

"Regardless of what happens on Dec. 10, this has been the worst year of my professional soccer business career," Hanauer told ESPNFC.com. "It's just been ... the lows have been really low. But I don't think I've ever been as proud of the organization as I am today, the way people on the business side and the team side pulled together on behalf of the badge and said, 'You know what? This is the Seattle Sounders, and we're really frickin' proud of our franchise. The early season was a blip, an anomaly, not good enough. We want to prove to the world what we're about.'"
