Seattle Sounders' postseason chances rise significantly after win over LA Galaxy

The Seattle Sounders defeated the LA Galaxy 4-2 on Sunday at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Just how big was that win for the Sounders’ chances at the postseason? Try 26 percent.

Seattle jumped from a 34 percent chance to make the 2016 MLS Playoffs to 60 percent, surpassing rival Portland in the process. The Sounders are currently in seventh place in the Western Conference, three points out of the final playoff spot but with two crucial games in hand on the Timbers and Sporting Kansas City.

The Sounders host the MLS-worst Chicago Fire at CenturyLink Field on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. PT; JOEtv, ROOT Sports outside Seattle, KIRO 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM) before traveling to Vancouver to face the Whitecaps, a team three points behind the Sounders but over whom Seattle has two games in hand as well.
