Sounders FC 2 signs goalkeeper Tyler Miller

Tyler Miller Release

SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC 2 today announced that it has signed goalkeeper Tyler Miller. Sounders FC selected Miller in the Second Round (33rd overall) in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, and following a brief stint in Germany’s Fourth Division, Miller is signed to S2’s roster and available for USL play beginning with Sunday’s match at Starfire Stadium against Arizona United (5:00 p.m. PT / SoundersFC.com). Per club policy, additional terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

“Tyler is a goalkeeper we have had our eye on for a long time, and had the chance to get him involved out of the draft. He made a decision to get some experience abroad, and we are happy he has decided to be a part of the Sounders organization,” said Sounders FC 2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz. “Goalkeeping is a strong department in our club right now, from the Academy all the way to the First Team, and we believe Tyler will only add to the quality we have in the position currently. We are excited for what he will bring to the position.”

After being drafted by Sounders FC, the 22-year-old Miller opted to play in the German Fourth Division with SVN Zweibrücken. Miller played four years of collegiate soccer at Northwestern University, where he was a three-time All-Big 10 First Team selection, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and the school’s all-time leader with 36 shutouts. He was a unanimous choice as the 2014 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and was named to the All Big Ten First Team.

“Tyler is a very talented young keeper who we were impressed with at the draft,” said S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. “We are happy he is back with us now and excited about what he brings to the club and the position”

Miller is being made available to media throughout the remainder of this week leading into Sunday’s match against Arizona United, with S2’s media access window taking place at approximately 11:30 a.m. PT at Starfire Sports Complex on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11. Members of the media interested in attending should contact Branden Griffith [BrandenG@SoundersFC.com] for more information, as specific times and locations are subject to change.

Currently in second place in USL’s Western Conference with a 9-6-2 overall record, S2 continues its inaugural campaign against Arizona United on Sunday, July 12 (5:00 p.m. PT / SoundersFC.com). This is the second meeting of 2015 between the two clubs, with Arizona claiming the previous match with a 2-1 victory in Scottsdale.
