Sounders FC today announced that it has signed Jason âFlickiifyâ Flick as the official competitive esports representative of the Rave Green. Flick is set to be one of 19 gamers â each representing an MLS club â competing in the inaugural eMLS Cup, held in Boston this April at PAX East, one of the worldâs largest gaming events.
The winner of eMLS Cup secures a berth in the EA SPORTS FIFA 18 Global Series Playoff on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup. Competitors battle for a chance to play into the FIFA eWorld Cup in August and become the FIFA 18 World Champion.
âWeâre excited to be taking part in the innovative eMLS program, and to have a competitor like Jason representing the team,â said Sounders FC Chief Operating Officer Bart Wiley. âSeattle and the gaming industry go hand-in-hand, so being able to secure a local gamer was important to us. We think Jason is going to be a great ambassador for the club.â
Flick, 23, grew up in Seattle and has been a Sounders FC fan since its inception. He has been playing FIFA for over a decade and looks forward to representing his hometown team.
âItâs an honor to have been selected to represent the Sounders in eMLS,â said Flick. âFor so many young people, FIFA is one of the ways they connect with soccer and develop their knowledge and fandom, so being able to showcase not only my gaming skills, but my love for the Sounders, in a competition like eMLS is very exciting. I canât wait to wear Rave Green at PAX East!â
eMLS, launched by Major League Soccer and EA SPORTS in January of this year, opens a unique and interactive avenue for the FIFA community to engage with MLS and for gaming fans to show their passion for their MLS club of choice. eMLS provides gamers a new competitive EA SPORTS FIFA 18 league, featuring some of the best FIFA 18 players from the United States and Canada.
For interested media, Flick is set to be available at the clubâs Media Day at CenturyLink Field on Wednesday, February 28, and will also put his FIFA skills on display for fans in The NINETY prior to Sounders FCâs home opener match against LAFC on Sunday, March 4.
