Sounders Head Coach Brian Schmetzer confirms forward Will Bruin has partially torn plantar fascia, could be out “weeks”

Seattle Sounders forward Will Bruin has what Head Coach Brian Schmetzer referred to on Thursday as a “considerable injury.”

After scoring against Toronto FC last Wednesday, Bruin missed the Sounders’ match in Portland last Sunday with heel pain. Schmetzer updated Bruin’s status on Thursday as a partial tear in his plantar fascia.

“We’re not talking about days, we’re talking about weeks,” Schmetzer said. “That was a massive blow to the squad, but he is determined to come back sooner than the doctors predict because he’s a tough kid and he wants to help the team.”

Schmetzer did not officially rule out Bruin for the Sounders’ next match against Real Salt Lake next Saturday (2 p.m. PT; JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS), but he was not optimistic about that possibility.

“I’m going to give you guys updates as the week progresses,” Schmetzer told media. “If he’s healthy, he’s going to play. But at this point, I don’t know. That would be a strong recovery by a strong kid.”

Bruin, 28, has a team-leading three goals in 2018 and is tied for second in assists with two.
