TACOMA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance today announced that it has signed defender Cody Baker. The 17-year-old signs a professional contract after three years with Sounders FC Academy. The Issaquah, Washington native has two appearances and one start for Defiance in 2021, having previously signed a USL Academy deal this season.
“Cody has come through the full pathway of our youth development system, from Sounders Discovery Program at 13, through the various Academy levels and now progressing seamlessly into a professional environment,” said Sounders FC Director of Player Development Henry Brauner. “On top of his quality, his mentality and competitive spirit have really come through in his time playing with Defiance and in training with the First Team. We are excited and hopeful to see him develop as a professional over the coming years.”
Wade Webber’s side returns home next Thursday, July 29 with a matchup against San Diego Loyal SC at Cheney Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / ESPN+).
