SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC defenders Xavier Arreaga and Alex Roldan are representing Ecuador and El Salvador, respectively, this weekend in international friendly action during the current FIFA window. Arreaga joins Ecuador for a pair of friendlies in the United States, while Roldan has joined El Salvador for two Asia-based friendlies ahead of this summer’s Concacaf Gold Cup.
Arreaga, 28, has 20 career caps for Ecuador dating back to 2018, most recently playing in a pair of friendlies against Australia on March 24 and 28. Arreaga was also included in Ecuador’s final roster for the 2022 FIFA World Cup QatarTM, appearing on the bench for each of the Ecuador’s three matches. He also had nine appearances during the squad’s 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring his lone international goal in a 6-1 win over Colombia on November 17, 2020. Ecuador is set to play a pair of friendlies against Bolivia at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey on Saturday, June 17 (4:00 p.m. PT) and Costa Rica at Subaru Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, June 20 (5:00 p.m. PT). Arreaga has appeared in nine matches for Seattle in all competitions this year, starting four.
Roldan, 26, has 19 career caps for El Salvador since making his international debut in a 2-0 win over Guatemala at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup, a game in which he scored his lone international goal. The defender appeared in 11 matches (10 starts) during El Salvador’s 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, captaining the squad on multiple occasions. After starting in a 6-0 friendly loss at Japan 6-0 on Thursday, Roldan and El Salvador head to face South Korea on Tuesday, June 20 (4:00 a.m. PT). Roldan has started all sixteen of his MLS appearances for Seattle this year, tallying three assists.
Following a 3-3 draw at Charlotte FC on June 10, Seattle Sounders FC is set to take on LAFC at BMO Stadium on Wednesday, June 21 (7:30 p.m. PT / Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
