The future is bright for Sounders FC.
On Friday, the Sounders Academy U-15’s and U-16’s each competed in the Generation adidas Cup Championship Bracket Semifinals. Seattle is the only club in the competition to have teams in each age group reach the final four of the most prestigious youth tournament in North American soccer.
Beginning in the group stage and through the knockout rounds, both the U-15 and U-16 Sounders teams surpassed top-tier clubs, including Bayern Munich and Boca Juniors, before reaching the semifinals on April 3.
Following comeback wins against FC Cincinnati (U-15’s) and New England Revolution (U-16’s) in the quarterfinals on April 2, the Academy teams advanced another day where the younger side squared off against LAFC and the U-16’s faced the Brazilian club Red Bull Bragantino.
The U-15’s kicked off first, overpowering LAFC with goals from Leo Guadagnino and Sasha Charles-Antoine to win 2-0 and secure a spot in the GA Cup final.
The U-16’s displayed a hard-fought performance against Red Bull just a few hours later, with Vitalii Kolomiets and Landon Lucero coming up clutch on the scoresheet. But, the Brazilian side managed to hold them off as the match finished 3-2.
The U-15’s will now take on Spanish club Valencia CF on Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. as the Seattle Sounders look to add a third GA Cup title to their trophy cabinet.
