USA and Honduras trade goals at opposite ends of the match in 1-1 draw

The first match of the post-Landon Donovan era didn’t go exactly to plan for the U.S. National Team as it had to settle for a 1-1 friendly draw with Honduras on Tuesday.

A first half strike from Jozy Altidore had the USA on the front foot for most of the match but it was ultimately pegged back by an 86th minute Maynor Figueroa equalizer.

Sounders Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin played varying parts in the match with Dempsey going the first 64 minutes, while Yedlin came on at that mark for Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi.

Dempsey continued to add to his century of USMNT caps and earned his 110th in the Red, White and Blue. Yedlin, the Sounders first ever Homegrown Player, took home his eighth national team appearance and has become increasingly more valuable to Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad after spending time at right back and right midfield.

Sunday’s match with the LA Galaxy will help to determine the winner of the 2014 MLS Supporters’ Shield with a Sounders victory officially bringing the trophy to Seattle. Both of the club’s national team players should be available for the massive clash in Carson.

Klinsmann and co. have just over a month to prepare for their next fixture as they’ll travel to the Emerald Isle to face Ireland in Dublin on Nov. 18 in their final international friendly of 2014.
