Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei is up for Male Sports Star of the Year at the 83rd annual MTRWestern 2018 Sports Star of the Year Awards, while the Sounders have been nominated for Sports Story of the Year for a second straight year. Now it is up to the fans to decide the winners.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper comes off a stellar MLS campaign that included a league-high 13 shutouts and a spot on the MLS All-Star team. For the second straight season, Frei shined on the biggest stage – making nine saves against Toronto FC in the MLS Cup.
Last year, the Sounders’ MLS-Cup winning squad was named the Sports Story of the Year and have earned a nomination again for returning to the MLS Cup.
The Seattle Sports Commission's annual event, which is set to be held on February 8 at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel, highlights the achievements of Washington sports, featuring athletes, coaches, executives and more.
