The Seattle Sounders left it all on the pitch during their FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ campaign.
To prove that they were capable of competing against the best of the best from around the world was a motivator in itself for the Rave Green. But, what kept them going was the team’s supporters at Lumen Field.
“The fans really showed out. We had about 50,000 people at all of our games, “ said defender Jon Bell. “They stood by us and they were cheering us on. We fueled off that.”
Regardless of Seattle’s three group stage losses against Copa Libertadores champs Botafogo, Spanish giants Atlético de Madrid and reigning UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, the intensity on the pitch from the Sounders side remained consistent with the help from the crowd.
“They were really behind us, even when we were down one or two goals,” said Bell.
The connection between the fans and the players at the Sounders organization has been evident since the club formed in 1974. The turn out at each of these three matches showed it is as strong as ever.

“All of our games have been super....The atmosphere at Botafogo, Atlético, and [yesterday], the way the fans kept cheering late in the game, although we knew the results,” said Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. “We knew we weren't going to be able to make it across the line, but did the guys quit? No, [and] why was that? It's because the fans were supporting them and cheering them on and continuing to drive the team.”
Part of the excitement for the Sounders earning the opportunity to play in the world-renowned tournament was the chance to do it at Lumen Field, in front of their friends, family and supporters.
The players will look back on the experience as an unforgettable moment in their careers — made all the more special by the incredible encouragement in the stands.
“We were very lucky to play a Club World Cup at home – not many people can say they did that,” said forward Jordan Morris. “We’re appreciative of the fans. They were awesome. They pushed us forward and helped us to compete in those games.”
The hope is to continue to gift the fans with more lasting moments as the team recommences MLS regular season competition on Saturday when the Sounders take on Austin FC at Lumen Field (7:30 p.m. PT; Watch on Apple TV | TICKETS).
“My message to them is we have a really special team, a special group this year,” said Morris. “We’ll continue to play like that [and] we’ll do really good things.”
