The Seattle Sounders' dominant display in Phase One of Leagues Cup 2025 has earned them the opportunity to advance to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf-sanctioned tournament. Because the Sounders finished at the top of the MLS, Phase One table, the team will face Liga MX's No. 4 seed, Club Puebla on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. on the Emerald Queen Casino Pitch at Lumen Field.
The Sounders earned hosting rights due to the Leagues Cup ranking system. Of the 36 teams who orginally participated in the tournament, the Sounders ranked as the 13th team while Club Puebla sat in the No. 35 spot. The teams’ positions were based on their league performance last year across 34 regular-season matches.
If the Sounders advance past the quarterfinals, the team could host throughout the remainder of the tournament, except when facing 2024 MLS Cup Champions LA Galaxy.
The Rave Green kicked off their Leagues Cup campaign strong, defeating reigning Concacaf Champions Cup winners Cruz Azul 7-0 on July 31, before securing two, 2-1 victories over Santos Laguna on Aug. 3 and Club Tijuana on Aug. 6. The Sounders were the only team in both leagues to secure all three Phase One wins.
Now, the Sounders have the chance to continue this commanding run of form as they set their sights on the only continental trophy still missing from their collection: the Leagues Cup.
