The Winging it with Zakuani Podcast is officially back.
Hosted by club legend and current member of the broadcast team, Steve Zakuani, the weekly show’s first episode of the 2020 season is now available. Playing on the theme of the team making signings to the roster in the offseason, Zakuani announced the addition of Sounders FC brand ambassador Brad Evans as a co-host on the show.
“Maybe the biggest offseason signing took place on this podcast,” quipped Zakuani. “Going forward, we’ve signed a DP podcaster to join.”
Always one to have a killer line in his back pocket, Evans continued the bit with an MLS roster mechanism joke of his own.
“I call it PAM,” retorted Evans. “It’s Podcasting Allocation Money, and we used it all.”
In addition to reviewing Leg One of Seattle’s Round of 16 tilt with C.D. Olimpia in the Concacaf Champions League, which ended in a 2-2 draw in Honduras, the pair poured over the roster and shared their thoughts ahead of the 2020 campaign.
In particular, they both singled out the club’s newest Designated Player, Brazilian midfielder João Paulo, as a special talent capable of driving the team forward this year.
“I think it’s a massive step for the club,” Evans said of João Paulo. “This guy is hard-nosed, and I like that. I think he adds a little bit of bite.”
The episode also features an exclusive interview Zakuani conducted with Head Coach Brian Schmetzer during the team’s preseason trip to Long Beach, Calif.
