Career Summary


2014-2015 (ESBJERG): Friberg started 12 of 13 appearances for Esbjerg of the Danish First Division. He scored one goal in 956 minutes as Esbjerg finished eighth in the table with a 10-13-10 record.

2013-2014 (BOLOGNA): In his lone season with Italian side Bologna, Friberg made seven appearances – starting five matches – and totaled 422 minutes in Serie A play.

2013 (MALMO FF): Friberg helped Malmö FF to the 2013 Allsvenskan championship with a 19-5-6 record. He appeared in 27 matches in his second season with Swedish side, starting 25 contests, and his six goals were the highest single-season total of his career. He also appeared in all six of Malmö’s matches in the 2013-2014 UEFA Europa League.

2012 (MALMO FF): In his first season back in Sweden, Friberg started 20 of 24 appearances, totaling 1680 minutes, helping Malmö FF to a third-place finish in the Allsvenskan.

2011 (SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC): Friberg joined Sounders FC for the 2011 MLS campaign and became a valuable member of Sigi Schmid’s midfield. He appeared in 26 of the club’s 34 regular season matches, guiding the Rave Green to a second-place finish in the league table. He scored his lone goal in a 4-2 win over the New York Red Bulls on June 23, while also recording two assists on the season.

2010 (BK HACKEN): In his final season with Swedish side BK Häcken, Friberg started 19 of 27 appearances, totaling 1,627 minutes and helping his team qualify for the 2011-2012 UEFA Europa League.

2009 (BK HACKEN): Friberg led BK Häcken with seven assists to go along with three goals during the 2010 Allsvenskan campaign. He totaled 2,069 minutes across 28 appearances and helped the team to a fifth-place finish.

2008 (BK HACKEN): Friberg made 25 appearances and scored a pair of goals in his first season as a starter with BK Häcken. He helped the club earn promotion after finishing second in Sweden’s second tier, the Superettan.

2007 (BK HACKEN): He appeared in 17 matches across all competitions in his first campaign with BK Häcken.

2005-2006 (VASTRA FROLUNDA): Friberg began his career with hometown side Västra Frölunda, making his first team debut in 2005 at 19-years-old and earning team Player of the Year honors in 2006.


Friberg earned two international caps for Sweden in 2012.


Erik’s father, Peter Friberg, also played as a professional for Häcken. He has one older sister. He was first signed as a professional at age 16. In addition to soccer, he enjoys watching ice hockey and basketball games and played ice hockey and team handball in his youth.
