InternationalPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2018 (Seattle): Rodríguez made his first appearance of the season as a substitute in Seattle’s 2-0 loss to Real Salt Lake (June 2) after missing the first couple of months of the season to a right knee sprain. Once he returned to health, the Spanish midfielder rattled off eight consecutive starts and tallied one goal and two assists. Rodríguez scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 home loss to the Portland Timbers (June 30) and recorded his first assist in the very next match, a 2-1 win away against the Colorado Rapids (July 4). The wide playmaker was once again sidelined for several matches through a hamstring strain before finishing out the campaign with four goals and four assists from his final five starts. He also played a pivotal role in the Sounders securing a second-place finish in the Western Conference, contributing two assists on MLS Decision Day as Seattle defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 (October 28). Throughout an impressive second campaign in the Pacific Northwest, the Spanish midfielder made 19 appearances in the MLS regular season, including 14 starts. In the 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, Rodríguez played 195 minutes across both legs of the Western Conference Semifinal series, with the midfielder earning an assist in Leg One.
2017 (Seattle): Rodríguez signed with the club during the summer transfer window on August 2 and quickly worked his way into the rotation. The versatile attacking midfielder’s first start came on the road in a 1-1 draw against the Vancouver Whitecaps (August 23), and he impressed in his debut with six shots – one on target – and two fouls suffered. In just his second start at home, he registered his first goal and assist for the club, leading the team to a 3-0 win over Whitecaps FC (September 27). His strong form carried over into the postseason, where he tallied one goal and two assists from four appearances. Rodríguez started the MLS Cup final against Toronto FC (December 9) and played 71 minutes as the left-sided attacking midfielder. Despite not making his first appearance for the club until August 23, the La Liga veteran played 773 minutes across all competitions.
2016-17 (Sporting Gijón): Rodríguez again made a move to La Liga for the 2016-2017 campaign, inking a deal with Sporting Gijón. He made 25 appearances, scoring goals against Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao (the latter coming in his first match with the club), as Gijón went 7-21-10 and was relegated after two campaigns in the Spanish topflight. Gijón fell to SD Eibar 5-2 on aggregate in the Copa Del Rey Round of 32, with Rodríguez starting both matches.
2015-16 (Getafe CF): Following its relegation, Elche loaned Rodríguez to Getafe CF of the Primera División, where he made 33 appearances and scored two goals, including a third-minute strike in a 4-0 win over Las Palmas. Getafe was relegated to the Segunda División after finishing 19th of 20 teams with 36 points (9-20-9).
2014-15 (Elche CF): Rodríguez signed a contract with CF Elche to return to the Spanish first division, scoring four goals over 36 appearances for the Valencian side, marking a career high for goals in a La Liga campaign. In back-to-back league matches in early January 2015, Rodríguez scored crucial goals against Villarreal (2-2 draw) and Athletic Bilbao (2-1 win). Despite finishing 13th in the table with 41 points (11-19-8), Elche became the first side to be relegated from the Primera División due to economic mismanagement. It reached the Round of 16 in the Copa Del Rey before falling to FC Barcelona.
2013-14 (Real Zaragoza): Playing in the Segunda División, Rodríguez scored five goals in 39 appearances, as Zaragoza finished 14th in the table with 54 points (11-10-21). He netted all five of his goals over a six-match stretch in September and October of 2013, including a brace in a 3-0 win over CD Tenerife.
2012-13 (Real Zaragoza): Starting as a member of the reserve team, Rodríguez was quickly called-up to the main squad and made his La Liga debut on August 25 in a 2-1 over RCD Espanyol. He went on to make 33 appearances, but Zaragoza was relegated after finishing the season at the bottom of the table. Rodríguez scored his first La Liga goal with a game-winner in a 2-1 result over Granada on October 21, 2012. In the 2012-2013 Copa Del Rey, Rodríguez made five appearances as Zaragoza reached the Quarterfinals before falling to Sevilla.
2008-12 (CF Badalona): Rodríguez signed his first professional contract with CF Baladona of the Spanish third division and played three seasons with the Catalan side. He scored seven career goals over three seasons before transferring to Real Zaragoza in La Liga. He spent the 2008 and 2009 campaigns loaned out to UE Vilajuïga, where he scored 11 goals competing in the Spanish third and fourth divisions.
