Remick honored to be selected by the Sounders

The defender also has an interesting pre-game ritual to get him ready for action.

History and tradition are pillars of success in the Ivy League.

Dylan Remick believes in those ideals and his four years at Brown University are testament to that.

However, he has a tradition of his own that dates back to his sophomore year of high school and it is one that the Sounders FC’s second round pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft plans to continue into his days as a professional.

Before each game, Remick plugs in his headphones and gets lost in the music of Taylor Swift.

“For me, it calms me down before games and gets me prepared for games,” he said in a conference call with reporters after the SuperDraft on Thursday.  “It’s sort of become a tradition.”

That off-beat aspect to his personality is just one element to a complex picture.  A biology major at Brown University, Remick had visions of becoming a doctor when he arrived on campus.  By his junior season, those visions had turned towards professional soccer and his focus shifted towards making that dream a reality.

“Soccer was always my passion and I wanted to give that 100-percent focus,” he said.

He still has aspirations of becoming a doctor but will gladly put them on hold to pursue his soccer career.

An athletic left back, Remick grew up playing center back and that versatility was attractive to the Sounders.

They saw him play at the Sounders FC College Combine in Las Vegas in December and he impressed the team there.  A late addition to the MLS Combine, he continued to show the athleticism and defensive prowess to draw the Sounders to make him their second round pick.

“I like the 1v1 defending battles just as much as the attacking battles, which sometimes you don’t see in a full back.  I pride myself on that,” he said.  “I like to get into all aspects of the game.”

He joins a group of left backs that includes Leo Gonzalez and Marc Burch and could be an option for Schmid at center back too.

Whatever the coaches ask of him, though, Remick is ready for the challenge and looking forward to donning the Rave Green when the Sounders break for training camp on Monday.

“It’s an absolute honor to be part of the Sounders organization,” he said.  “I am humbled and honored and I’m looking forward to continuing to improve on my position and skills with the Sounders organization.”
