The partnership between Sounders FC and Subway is designed to help encourage youth to be active and healthy.
Sounders FC has partnered with Subway restaurants of Seattle to provide fitness and health tips to students around the Puget Sound area over the last two years and together they have reached more than 1,000 students and their family members to promote a message of health and wellness.
On Thursday at Al Davies Boys & Girls Club in Tacoma, Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin and forward David Estrada shared fitness and nutrition tips with kids to continue that ongoing relationship at Family Fitness Night.
“I always love giving back to the community. You never forget where you came from,” Yedlin said. “It’s good to give back and it’s good to see the smiles on the kids’ faces.”
After signing autographs and talking with the group of kids, Yedlin and Estrada went outside and led them through a series of interactive exercises.
Part of the goal of the Sounders FC and Subway Family Fitness Night is to curb the obesity rate among adolescents, which has tripled in Washington State in the past 30 years according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
