The Seattle duo both made the MLSsoccer.com squad for the second time this season after a resounding performance against Real Salt Lake.
With victory comes more attention and on Tuesday Sounders FC got a sliver of that when two players were named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week, giving the club multiple players recognized for just the third time this season. After posting a dominating 2-0 victory over previous league-leaders Real Salt Lake on Friday at CenturyLink Field, Obafemi Martins and DeAndre Yedlin were both among the 11 players selected in Week 29.
Martins scored his eighth goal of the season in the third minute to get Seattle off to an early 1-0 lead, then Martins and Yedlin connected to lead to the second goal of the match from Lamar Neagle later in the first half. It was the fourth assist from Martins and the second assist for Yedlin.
The Seattle duo was joined on Team of the Week by goalkeeper Matt Lampson (Columbus Crew); defenders Carlos Bocanegra (Chivas USA) and Jamison Olave (New York Red Bulls); midfielders Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Federico Higuain (Columbus Crew) and Vicente Sanchez (Colorado Rapids); and forwards Jose Luis Anangono (Chicago Fire) and Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy).
It was just the second time this year that Martins and Yedlin were named to Team of the Week. Osvaldo Alonso and Lamar Neagle were also listed on the bench for the week.
