Update: Chad Marshall took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to thank fans for their concern and support following his injury at training earlier in the day.
Seattle Sounders FC defender Chad Marshall sustained an unspecified injury during the teamâs training session in Tukwila on Wednesday, leaving the All-Star centerbackâs playing status unclear for this weekendâs match against the LA Galaxy and potentially beyond.
Marshall went down late in the teamâs training session following a collision with another player and remained on the ground before he was immediately attended to by Sounders training staff. He was eventually carried off the field on a stretcher and placed in an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.
Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said that Marshall âfell and hit his headâ during the training session, but insisted it was too early to diagnose the specificity or severity of the injury until Marshall received additional examination.
âWeâre obviously taking all the precautions, but at this stage we donât know,â Schmid said. âWeâll know more later.â

Marshall, 31, has appeared in 27 games this year, his second season with the Sounders since coming over from Columbus Crew SC last year. He was named the MLS Defender of the Year last season, the third such honor of his 12-year MLS career.
Schmid said the club took the necessary precautions in stabilizing Marshallâs head and neck after the incident.
âYouâre always going to be a little more conservative,â Schmid said. âSo we just dealt with it in a very conservative manner, and weâll know more later.â
A number of Sounders players gathered around Marshall following the injury before they continued working out on an adjacent portion of the field.
âThey just wanted to come over,â Schmid said. âNobody wants to see anybody hurt.â
The Sounders return to action against the Galaxy at CenturyLink Field on Sunday (6:30 p.m. PT / FOX Sports 1).
