Jurgen Klinsmann excludes Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris from Copa roster

While Saturday afternoon's 7-0 rout of NYCFC by the New York Red Bulls may leave folks talking for days, it was what happened at half time that is leaving U.S. Men's National Team fans scratching their heads.

During halftime of the nationally-broadcasted Rivalry Week match on FOX, the 23-man roster for Copa America Centenario was released. Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey was included and will have the opportunity to add to his international cap total, which currently sits at 122 and ranks him sixth all-time for the USMNT.

One name that didn't make the final list? Sounders rookie Jordan Morris, who was named along with captain Brad Evans to Klinsmann's provisional roster earlier this month. Klinsmann spoke about his decisions during the halftime announcement.

"There are always some 50-50 moments, if it's in the back line, if it's in midfield, if it's up front," Klinsmann said. "And it came a little bit down to Wondo [Chris Wondolowski] or Jordan.

"We decided in this moment right now to go with Wondo. He's in top form. He's scoring a lot of goals for the Earthquakes. But always, when you take certain players in one area, you have to leave other ones out."

There was plenty of buzz online following the decision, but the rookie said he's proud of his USMNT teammates and will be focusing on tonight's match versus the Colorado Rapids.
