Former Seattle Sounders assistant coach Ante Razov joins LA Galaxy staff

Former Seattle Sounders assistant coach Ante Razov has joined the LA Galaxy in the same role, the Galaxy announced on Tuesday.

An LA Galaxy original and former teammate of new head coach Curt Onalfo, Razov spent the last two seasons as an assistant in Seattle and helped the Sounders win their first MLS Cup in December. Razov joins Rob Becerra and Daniel Gonzalez on Onalfo’s staff after former head coach Bruce Arena brought four LA coaches with him when he took over the United States national team.

Razov grew up in Los Angeles and played four years at UCLA before enjoying an incredibly successful 15-year MLS career. He tallied 114 goals, which is good for fifth in league history.

“This is a coming home with the Galaxy for me to work with Curt and work for a team that is the beacon in Major League Soccer,” Razov said. “I spent a lot of time away, but this club feels right to me. I’m excited to get down to work. … It’s an exciting time to be a part of the Galaxy right now. I’m really excited to be a part of this process.”

Razov also has 25 career caps for the U.S. and played under Onalfo during Onalfo’s time as a U.S. assistant. Razov coached the Galaxy’s U-14s prior to taking the job with Seattle.

“Ante is one of our league’s best goal scorers. He’s got a great mind for the game and just recently won a championship with good experience within the league,” Onalfo said. “We feel like he’ll be a great asset and he’ll be able to give some great insight and nuisance to our attacking players.”
