Seattle Sounders players react to release of new 2017 Heritage Kit, designed by adidas

The Seattle Sounders released their 2017 Heritage Kits on Thursday, with the new uniforms paying a large homage to Sounders' jerseys of old.

The reactions and reviews from players, who saw the new design for the first time last week during the team's internal media day, were overwhelmingly positive and excited. The kit features a throwback polo collar, the 1984 Sounders logo on the back below the neck and the phrase “Born in 74” along the lower left front hem.

“So sick,” rookie forward Seyi Adekoya said of the kit. “[The collar] is so cool, I love it. I love it a lot.”

Most of the players didn’t even notice the small details that adidas added at first. When they were brought to their attention, they liked the subtlety and simplicity of the design that harkened back to the club’s NASL and USL days.

“[The ‘Born in 74’ detail] is super cool,” said midfielder Cristian Roldan. “I really like [the collar]. It looks old-school…It’s the best of both worlds.”

A lot of players have never played with a collar before, so there was a slight apprehension, even from those who liked it. But once they tried it on and felt the performance pique fabric and how small the collar was, they were looking forward to wearing similar kits to the ones their predecessors wore.

“I think it’s cool tying [the past and present] together,” said forward Jordan Morris. “The nostalgia of it will be pretty fun for the fans. I like the light blue, I like how it represents where it all started.”
