Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey scores in 2017 season opener

Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey started and scored against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday in his first competitive match since last August.

Defender Joevin Jones made a nice move along the left side of the 18-yard-box and whipped in a menacing cross that was deflected away by goalkeeper Tyler Deric. The ball fell to a wide-open Dempsey on the far post, who took one touch before slotting home the finish with his left foot.

Dempsey missed the final four months of last season while recovering from an irregular heartbeat. He recorded eight goals and two assists in 17 games last year including five goals in his final three matches.
