TUKWILA, WASH. – Forward Irvin Parra recorded two goals and an assist as Seattle Sounders FC 2 (5-5-2, 17 points) defeated LA Galaxy II (2-7-2, 8 points) by a score of 3-0 on Saturday evening at Starfire Stadium. S2’s three goals – all scored in a torrid 13-minute span in the second half – gives S2 the season sweep over Los Dos after the Rave Green won the first meeting in April. After earning four points over the two-match homestand, S2 visits Rio Grande Valley Toros FC on Saturday, June 10 (5:30 p.m. PT / Live-Streamed on SoundersFC.com).
After a scoreless first half, S2 took the lead on Parra’s first goal of the evening. From the right flank, defender Denso Ulysse delivered a looping cross to the far side of the area, where Sounders FC Academy forward Azriel Gonzalez perched at the back post. Gonzalez sent a header in front of the goal for Parra, who redirected the ball into the net with his chest.
Eight minutes later, Parra sprang on a poor pass along LA Galaxy II’s backline, creating a two-man advantage with Saari against the onrushing goalkeeper. Parra found Saari on his left with a soft pass, which led to Saari’s empty-net goal. The goal marked Saari’s first goal of the season.
In the 73rd minute, midfielder Charles Renken jumped on a slow-rolling pass from the goalkeeper and sent a blistering cross to Saari in the middle of the 18-yard-box. The University of Tulsa product tapped a pass for Parra, who was lurking directly behind him. The forward completed his brace with a left-foot strike that extended the club’s lead to 3-0. Parra paces S2 with five goals in the 2017 USL campaign.
The club returns to action next Saturday on the road against Rio Grande FC Toros. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m PT.
