Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey has been on an absolute tear over the past six weeks, producing against MLS and international opponents alike. In this edition of Quest Diagnostics Advanced Stats, we take a look at Dempsey’s brilliant run of form.
Dating back to his stoppage-time equalizer at the Portland Timbers on June 25, Dempsey has six goals and two assists in his last five MLS matches. The Sounders are 3-0-2 in those games that bookended a three-match stint with the United States national team in which he scored his USMNT-tying 57th goal and helped lead the U.S. to the Gold Cup title.
Dempsey leads the Sounders with 10 goals including two braces in the last five weeks. He was named to the MLS Team of the Week twice during this run and was the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week following his two-goal, one-assist performance in a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on July 4.
