CASCADIA STANDINGS: The Portland Timbers are first with seven points from four matches, the Sounders are second with four points from three matches and the Whitecaps are third with three points from three matches.


FREDY FACTOR: Former Sounders forward Fredy Montero recorded a brace in April at BC Place to lead the Whitecaps to a 2-1 win over Seattle. He has a team-leading 10 goals on the season including four goals in his last four matches.

MISSING MATIAS: The Whitecaps will be without midfielder Matias Laba for the rest of the season after he tore his ACL against the New England Revolution on Aug. 12. The Argentine Designated Player had two goals and an assist in 19 matches.


REYNA RISING: Vancouver downed the Houston Dynamo last weekend thanks to a late strike from Yordy Reyna. The 23-year-old Peruvian attacker joined the Whitecaps this summer from Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg and has impressed in his first few appearances.


RECORD RUN: The Sounders defeated Minnesota United 2-1 on Sunday to push their unbeaten streak to nine matches, which ties a club record set in 2011. Seattle is 6-0-3 and has not lost since a road defeat to New York City FC on June 17.


SHUTOUT STREAK SNAPPED: Minnesota snapped Seattle’s shutout streak but not before the Sounders hit 421 minutes without conceding, a club record.


DEMPSEY DOES IT AGAIN: Clint Dempsey scored the game-winner against Minnesota on a 94th-minute penalty kick, his seventh goal in his last six MLS matches. He leads the Sounders with 11 tallies.


LATE DRAMA: The Sounders have scored in the 94th minute three times this season. Will Bruin scored to earn a road point in Montreal in March before Dempsey stunned Portland in June with a last-gasp header and finished the Loons off this past weekend.


HONEY BADGER’S BACK: Captain Osvaldo Alonso returned to the starting lineup last weekend for the first time since injuring his knee against the Colorado Rapids on July 4. Alonso went the full 90 minutes against Minnesota.
